Students had a beautiful experience of running the school canteen for 2 days. Right from forming teams to deciding on the menu ( after a careful research and keeping in mind the health, nutrition and taste in mind) to calculating the unit cost of the snack and how to manage 30 minutes rush during recess......the list is endless. They earned Rs.3000/- from that activity and that we donated for sponsoring the education of some underprivileged school children.
These are images of some of the award winning international new school architectural designs from Design Share. They have featured our new ASCD book Curriculum 21: Essential Education for a Changing World on their website. When I was doing research for the book I learned of the work of this exciting and forward thinking group. Every child maintains a scorecard like this in my class. This scorecards are on the classwalls. Students set their targets in the begining of the year and write the score recieved in every test and evaluate how far they are from their goals. When a child remains absent, he puts a 'sad face' on the scorecard (indicates the loss of having missed the school day ) and gets a happy face from teacher when he/she does something exceptional i.e. when he/she has gone beyond the call of their duties. Worked wornderfully well with 17-18 years olds in my class.
Taken from the Skywalker Ranch (location of the George Lucas Educational Foundation) outside San Francisco, after a good meeting with Edutopia. I would guess he's life-size.
