"When [teachers] started experimenting with CHATS strategies, they saw instant reults, in terms of students' understanding and engagement. That enthusiasm just propelled them forward into trying out other strategies... They're able to reach kids that they didn't know how to reach before. Teachers are feeling empowered" (Dr. Janette Hewitt, Principal, Washington Elementary School).

ASCD Daily Brief: Meet Dr. Judy Willis on ASCD.org
Brain research has provided educators with a better understanding of instructional practices not only essential for students with special needs, but also their peers. In new video segments on ASCD.org, author Judy Willis offers strategies from her book "Brain-Friendly Strategies for the Inclusion Classroom" on how to differentiate classroom instruction to meet the needs of all learners. She also shares some background research on the brain and examines how the brain learns.

2010 Summer Conference Presenter
My students spend a lot of time doing personal reading in books of their choice. I have to incorporate reflective assignments which can broadly apply. I developed this menu of options with my school's desktop publishing/photoshop class. Together, we were able to bring my developmental reading class a fun way to choose good reflective items. They like this a lot better than a bookmark with a list or a floating verbal reminder from me.

Students had a beautiful experience of running the school canteen for 2 days. Right from forming teams to deciding on the menu ( after a careful research and keeping in mind the health, nutrition and taste in mind) to calculating the unit cost of the snack and how to manage 30 minutes rush during recess......the list is endless. They earned Rs.3000/- from that activity and that we donated for sponsoring the education of some underprivileged school children.
