Welcome Back to PAL (Performance Assessment to Lead)

Welcome to PAL (Performance Assessment to Lead) an ASCD professional interest community

We hope you will join us this year for some engaging conversations about assessing leadership and school performance.

We welcome you to a brand new academic year with the Performance Assessment to Lead (PAL) professional interest community (PIC).  This year we hope you will join in our quest to find creative ways of supporting our novice principals (campus leaders), especially those who lead schools in rural areas. After reviewing the data collected from our on-line survey in the spring (2011), it is obvious that our school leaders, especially our rural school leaders, want and need engaged conversations with others faced with similar challenges of cutbacks in spending, teacher shortages, and opportunities for professional development. More than ever it is important that we all take time to assess our performance and skill in leading teachers and staff during these tough economic times. Reflecting on our leadership practice is vital if we want to sustain as well as continually improve our schools. PAL will continue to provide an outlet for conversations on how we can develop participatory leadership on our campuses, assess and develop exemplary leadership practices, and become outstanding instructional leaders.  Let's make this year exceptional by sharing the challenges we face as well as how we tackled those challenges.  Be sure to join us on Twitter @PrincipalMentor
