Hawaii ASCD Launches Emerging Scholar Award Program

This year, Hawaii ASCD (HASCD) is presenting an Emerging Scholar Award.  This award was created to give a beginning secondary teacher the opportunity to experience professional development at the national level. If selected, HASCD covers the recipient’s registration fees, accommodations, and travel fees to attend ASCD Annual Conference.

An eligible recipient of the award is a middle or high school teacher who has been teaching for three years or less. Selected Emerging Scholars will share what they have learned with colleagues and write an article regarding their experiences for the Hawaii ASCD newsletter.

Contact Hawaii ASCD President Margi Almony for more information about the Emerging Scholar Award.

North Carolina ASCD (NCASCD) recently increased its membership by 30 percent. How did they do it? In honor of 55 years as an association, North Carolina ASCD asked each superintendent in the state to pay for memberships of all their school-based and central office administrators at a special membership rate that would be grandfathered for three years, and the response was amazing.

Congratulations and happy birthday to North Carolina ASCD! Contact NCASCD Executive Director Frances Jones for more information about this initiative.
